Can anyone offer some assistance on identifying this piece I found. It was dug on a cleared lot that had some mixed relics unearthed between period and WWII. Nothing too special on the period relics, a couple three ringers, sash buckle with bad ground action and the ole throw in the box stuff. This piece though is interesting. Definitely Chinese/Japanese. I am guessing WWI? I am not knowledgeable at all on WWI-II relics. Any ideas? Thanks much

You didn't mention how thick it is or what type of metal it was made of CB?
But I'm thinking it's stamped brass, so it's likely to be relatively thin.
It looks to be Chinese and to have broken off of something, maybe a tobacco snuff tin. :icon_scratch:

I had to clean up your pics to get a better look at it.

Sorry Dave. Yes it read brass. It is also relatively thin, with curvature at the top. Thanks for insight here.

It has the something that looks like letters maybe you could try coin tracing method with pencil and paper to transfer just the characters to a paper sheet and then use google translate photo text recognition.
