I have a fella that wants to purchase this Rail Road CheckTag from me and I have no way of finding it's value. My son says some of these are quite valuable and I don't want to sell it not knowing what I'm doing. I have had it for several years and I just don't want to just give it away, and if it's not worth much I'll just keep it.

If you can help identify it or it's value or even give me a idea where to get that information it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance "Rock in Chairs Gold" :coffee2:

That's IF you can believe what you read on the internet. :-\

I saw several of the Wilcox tags selling around $250. There was a Y & MVRR tag that sold on Worthpoint, but I don't have a account to see the selling price.

DCMAtt, for once, the internet didn't lie! :o His name was actually Fred Wallace Wilcox, and yes, W.W. Wilcox of Chicago was incorporated in 1908.

The Yazoo & Mississippi Valley Railroad was incorporated February 17, 1882, and from the beginning was a subsidiary of the Illinois Central Railroad. The Y&MV operated as part of the Illinois Central until it was officially merged into the IC in 1946.

On this site, yours has a selling price of $155.00 :

Very cool tag. I love railroad related stuff & have a fair collection of railroad lanterns. A great website for all of you to bookmark for identifying what railroad used what call letters is this one.. http://railroadiana.org/ If you click on "railroad names" there is a search feature you can use to find out what the initials mean. They don't give estimates of value though and they don't buy or sell anything. Just a reference website for hardcore collectors. This is what came up for your tag.. YAZOO & MISSISSIPPI VALLEY

Locations: LA, MS, TN
Express: American Express
Type RR: steam unless noted otherwise
Disposition/Successor: ILLINOIS CENTRAL

I want to thank every one for their replies. You have been a big help to me. Mine is not in as good a shape as the one showing for asking price of $155.00 but at least I now have a figure to work with. That puts me in a much better position then I was to begin with. Again thanks to you all.

Please, each and everyone of you have a Safe and Happy New Year. Rick "Rock in Chairs Gold"
