That's a musket sling hook. Nice find.

Actually, civil war and Indian-Wars era musket/rifle slinghooks had only two rivets -- unlike Stillrollin300's find, which has three rivets. Depending on its exact length, it is either a straphook from a Mann's Patent Model-1864 cartridge-box rig's strap, or a US Model-1859 Swordbelt's length adjuster hook. See the photos below. (First two are the swordbelt length adjuster hook.) Based on the length of the hook's tongue in Stillrollin300's photos, I believe it is a swordbelt length adjuster hook.
