Need some button identification help!

It's a flat button with some weight. It looks like Greek writing on the back to me. Any ideas? Found in an area were I have found lots of early 1800's stuff in northern VA.

I believe that may read "GOLD PLATE", But I'm not certain by any means, as usually the term gilt was used with gold.

Unfortunately it doesn't give any specific details about it, but early 1800's is about right.
