hey guys. extremely saddened to say my father who is my best metal detecting buddy has past away. and going through some belonings i found an old box full of old detecting finds. here are some of the buttons that were in there. some help would be great. they are all like about nickle size with nothing readable on the back. As is so often the case, the Ebay seller is wrong, those are definitely not US Navy buttons, they are civilian usage "Fashion" buttons with a cheap steel self-shank back. Back in the 1960s, Montgomery Ward was selling imitation navy PEA coats with these "Canal De Vieux" (French for "Old Canal") buttons on them. For proof with a photo, go here:

The button with the crown (and crossed golfclubs) shows the emblem of the Royal Black Heath Golfing Club, in Scotland. The lettering around the emblem's edge seems to be a combination of Old English Script letters and Scottish Runes. That emblem has been "pirated" by button manufacturers as a blazer/sportscoat button, for use on golfing jackets, among other clothing. It has been posted for ID in the What Is It? forum many times. Below are photos showing two variations. Note the presence of black enamel on both, to "highlight" the emblem.
