I have a hunting spot that I wanted to get opinions on. My spot is, or was, a small field, located on a main road, in between an apartment complex and some houses. It is literally a 5 minute walk from my front door. They are planning to build 3 or 4 new houses on the field, and early last week, the heavy equipment came in and leveled it, removing something like the top 12"-16" of soil. Now, since the city of Warwick dates back to 1642, and being close to the original settlements of Pawtuxet and Conimicut, I'm thinking OLD. I figure the the topsoil they carted off must have contained most of the clad, some older stuff, and ALL of the modern trash in this spot. I want to hit it hard, in all metal mode, and dig everything, in hopes that the heavy equipment got me a lot closer the the ooooold stuff than I could normally hope for. I do not know what, if anything was on this spot in the past, but I am attempting to research it. I'm hoping to get over there tommorow afternoon to start hunting it.

What do you more experienced hunters think of a spot like this?

Reseach later, the time to hunt is now! If I was in this area I would be in there while you were posting this topic. Good luck in the hunt! Keep us informed of your finds.

i agree, hunt it while you can,,,,,,,late at night look for online plat maps, sanborn fire maps will get you back to 1870s, or any historical maps you can find....get up early, wake up the chickens, and spend all the time you can there as you won't have much after they start building..............gldhntr

Vacant lots are fery good hunting spots. I found my first (and only) relic in one. If you don't find any coins you'll at least find relics.

In a location as old as Warwick, I would hunt any site thats huntable. Who knows what was there 200 years ago?
The worst thing that could happen is that you may not find any Bust coins or Colonial coppers.
I would hunt that site to death.
