Ok kids,

While rummaging through an old falling down ramshackle house, I found these items along with a whole bunch of other stuff and we haven't even begun to examine all that's there.

Need your help. I know this is a badge and a "weighted" Billy club. Question is: Are they Railroad connected, what time era would they be from, and just badge is this?

thanks & Good Hunting

Can anyone once again help me re-size these? I'm trying to figure out just how to do that. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Right click and use open with... Once opened, modify and save changes.

Could it be a RR detective badge? That's a great find :icon_sunny:

OH MAN! That's awesome. Thanks a bunch!

I really got to learn how to do that. Like trying to teach an ole dog new tricks. LOL

You are welcome. How long is the wooden thing .. It looks like a kitchen tool, perhaps an old potato masher.

The only thing I can find so far on Southern Detectives dates it to the early - mid 1950's

McIntosh try resizing your pic back of badge and ask questions if any. Not sure what software you use, however someone on Tnet will be able to help.

Anyone who has seen "Emperor of the North," with Ernest Borgnine, who played a "Railroad Bull," will remember a billystick like that.
The "railroad bulls" were charged with the job of keeping hobos and other itinerants from riding the rails for free. In the case of the character played by Ernest Borgnine, some took a sadistic pleasure in their job.

Another option that comes to mind about the billystick is that semi-truck drivers use a club like that to hit their tires as a way to check inflation. I've heard them called "tire thumpers."
I suppose they also use them for self defense if the need arises...

The "Billy Club" measures 12" long and the "fat" end has been weighted professionally.

The back of the badge has no obvious markings, will post pic but size may be messed up

Incorporated by , Southern Detectives Inc is located at ,. Southern Detectives Inc was incorporated on Wednesday, July 23, 1952 in the State of FL and is currently not active.

Source: Public Record data - Department of State - Division of Corporations

If your badge is from the same company, they seemed to be involved in quite a few court cases (on the wrong side)

Great information! Thanks

Wonder if the "club" was part of their equipment or is from something earlier?

In 1950, employees of Southern Detectives, Inc. were reported to be "Doormen" at wrestling events in Georgia.
The billy club could easily have been 'part of the uniform'.
Don.....

So I wonder now if they may be worth anything besides a good conversation piece? LOL
