Re: Need IDing HeLp!!!!!!!!

Hi, thanks for the input. I doubt it is 19th cen. Also I doubt its French I live in Alabama and I found it in a creek while digging. But I know nothing so im going with what you said. Thanks so much by the way for the input. I have posted it on several other websites know one seems to know what it is. But, in most situations they say it is pre civial war. Also could you get me a picture of a French button resembling the button?
Thanks and HH

Re: Need IDing HeLp!!!!!!!!

Ive been doing some research. I found a website with a timeline of buttons from the French. All are tin or some type of metal. This is a gritty substance almost like reallly cheap concrete. but the ring around the button is iron or some othere type of metal. Also, almost all of the French buttons I can find have on back the loop is double in a cros type pattern this is a single. ??? My finds are unknown :( lol

Re: Need IDing HeLp!!!!!!!!

What in the world could you be diggin' so far down in a creek for? HAHA! You must live in North East Alabama.....where all the gold is!
I'm sorry to say I can't help with ID....but don't give up, usually someone in here comes along and can. ;)

Maybe the gritty stuff is just the button deteriorating?

Good Luck

Nana :)

Re: Need IDing HeLp!!!!!!!!

HAHAHAAHHAHAHAAHAHA u guessed it right on the money. I live in NE alabama (huntsville) Then at the time I was 10 yrs old making a solid post for our tree house we were going to make over the creek. By the way no gold here lol. Lots o` silver though. Some one recently in our town found 12 silver dollars in a iron box. (jelous with so much envy).
