No idea what it is or where it is from, but I would have jumped for joy if I had found it!!!

Civil War great find

Other than the broken part on the back, looks to be a great find. May be a Banner find!! :o Hope I'm not jumping the gun here

no offence to anyone but the tongue and the place where the bar would have been dates the buckle from the 1870's to 1920 Maybe a bit later. I checked O' Donnell's & Cambell's book to make sure. Still a cool find though

Thankyou gentlemen for your quick answers. Indian Wars Cast Bronze Sword Plate sounds like the right answer to me and I accept that. Still wonder how it got to the point where I found it in the middle of New York State. The circumstances behind the drop have always intriqued me...?

There were quite a few men from New York that fought in that battle. Found a New York Staff Officers button in a cotton field in Louisiana...one of my favorites.

Did you find any other miltary relics there? It's possible the grounds was used for a training grounds. It also might just have been that the owner used it after the war and just threw it away or lost it. Or maybe a kid took his dad's old buckle to school to show his freinds and lost it and got a good butt whoopin' when he got home. It is strange where you find things sometimes.

Sweet find. Say, you are not that far from me. Nice to see someone who has been hunting a while lives close by :icon_thumleft:

Donny
