That looks ALOT like this piece I found at an archaic bog site. It was close to this bone Handel..notice the notch..I belive mine to be a large blade perform that was being made to fit this handle. He even started on the edge but never finished."I wish it could talk."

I thought it was a shark tooth at first. Preform or does it show work? Very hard to tell from my screen and the stone is white which will hide the flaking. Ill check back and see what others say.

I was thinking tooth aswell at first...maybe preform..not sure tho..the bottom looks like it but the other half looks natural

I'll tell you what....when I pick those up in the outback in Australia...we don't call them "pre-forms" . Those are bonifide spear points, quick and crude but reallllllly common in the land down under.

That may be true in a sence...but unless there has been some connection between North Carolina and Australia that I don't know about..we would need to compare to the artifacts and decades of study pertaining to that area...North America at least.

They don't come quick and crude around here buddy...these native americans spent their whole life making these points, it was there life! They had to be made to perfection! They just want items for killing, but items of beauty! Just like a person now would build a piece of furniture, indians spent time and a lot of TLC to get these boys right...there lives depended on it.. do you have any artifacts from your place? Would love to see them! Never seen any items from the land down under!

Ohhhh yes some of them are crude and quick around here. You have to notice repetitive shapes and angels. For instance nice shell hoe

It's human nature to cut corners where allowed. I have better examples , if interested, I'll dig some more up that I saved just for comparison! Most are tools not points.

I think that is what I have. We all ways called them old quick and crude pieces. Most walk by them, leaving them unnoticed. I started noticing quick and crude pieces about three years ago. I have been hunting since I was 4 years old. I'm now 31. And just started noticing geometric similarities on ugly and pretty rocks. ( I just started a sentence with "and" my 3rd grade teacher would kill me)

It is very easy to get carried away with geometric similarities as you say.I could come home with a truck full every day...not to say some were not used in some way...but...be realistic. What if a round rock was used as a hammer...that does not make every round rock an artifact. There needs to be use wear..context..type of stone..other things taken into account. I'm not trying to be rude at all..but I must say that besides people with one post that ask "is this an artifact?""It fits perfectly in my hand" I see you post more non artifacts than just about anyone else in this forum. I love ya man..don't take that the wrong way.. I'm just sayin

I found this piece within ten feet of the other piece. It looks more like yours to me.??











It has sustained a few chips from rolling around in the back of my pick em up truck the last month or so.

Not that I need to explain but..dude..those two pieces came from a stratified site a little less than three feet below the surface. The stone is coastal plains chert the bone is deer..they came from between several large pieces of pottery and Burt bone. The chert is the type that the majority of the points and tools from the "SITE" were made from which by the way doesn't even occur naturally in my part of the state. See..that's what I mean by factors need to be taken into account. The back of your truck...Really Dude!

...sure here you go...quick and crude for hunting (45,000 years of hunting by the way, as there lives depended on it too...zero agriculture.) fancy for show and trade. Finding these is way easier then it is in the US. Picture one big Nevada desert that hasn't been picked clean yet.

No offense taken. I understand, but, I thought that this site was for people to share info. and ask questions. I joined here not to show off my obvious pieces, but , instead, to get help identifying my mysteries. You know as well as I that their are quick crude artifacts lying around. The two that I posted for J.G are agricultural tools. I said that my pics would not allow him to see a good example. The wear and hafting scars are what didn't show in my pictures. I also said that I would find better examples. It's honestly better not to be able to tell the rough stuff. Once again, I'm not offended, debate and opinion wrestling are all part of what makes this FUN!! Talk to ya mañana! Good night!

No no no!! I did not mean that! I appreciate your comparison. Although, I don't know what your piece is, it looks more worked than mine. I really thought the similarities between my second pic and your pic were greater. Sorry for the misunderstanding !
