Need ID help on civil war relics "possibly"

All right these items are posted in the today finds as well and this is second time we have hunted this area and walked away with good finds but I have 2 items that I honestly have no clue :icon_scratch: The 1st we THINK could possibly be a trumpet or bugle horn mouth piece it is a "goldish" color and has a piece of wood in one end. The other I just dont know, Anyone have any ideas?????

Thanks CW

Re: Need ID help on civil war relics "possibly"

I don't think that is a mouthpiece. It looks sort of modern like a pipe fitting of some sort, or perhaps the inside of a nozzle. The other piece looks like the remains of an end link on a single tree

A singletree is the wooden "link" [so to speak] that connects horses via their harness to the wagon they are pulling.

Is that first piece too thick to be the nozzle end of a powder flask?

Got told today by the owner of the property that it is an old wooden rod that was used to hold yarn from a cotton factory????? I dunno its got wood on the inside but it looks an awful lot like metal to me and it rang up on a detector, but then again it was found with a garrett :D

Now that someone has id'd the thing as a spool , I agree it is a spool from a cotton mill. We had one of the biggest cotton mills in the states here in town at one time and I remember seeing those spools. My Mom worked there for several years. I think some were wooden and the newer ones were metal? It's been a long time, but I remember the shape. Monty
