Need help to ID these 2 early Haitian military buttons. I've googled my eyes out now, so hoping someone can shed some light, I've seen the Phoenix buttons, only ones I can find. One says "ARTILERIE ETAT D'HAITI" and a 1, obviously for 1st regiment. It measures 7/8" and still retains some gold gilt. 1 piece with broken off loop. The other button says, "INFANTERIE D'HAYTI" The number in the center is worn, also a broken loop 1 piecebutton, measures 3/4". Neither has any writing on the backs. Appreciate any & all help. haiti buttons1.webphaiti buttons1.webphaiti buttons2.webphaiti buttons3.webphaiti buttons4.webphaiti buttons5.webphaiti buttons6.webp

Nice buttons! Cool to have two that are different, artillery / infantry.
When enlarged I’d swear there’s signs of words around the edge of the one with more gilt remaining.
I’d figure 1830’s ballpark?

Well that's more than I found so far, vague info though. Looks like someone cleaned the heck out of that one. Thank you Bramblefind for your help.

Button id

Haiti, a French slave colony, won its independence in 1804. The new leader, Dessalines, was assassinated a year later. Power was shared by Petion in the south and Christophe in the north. They became two countries in 1807. Henri Christophe ruled north Haiti as president from 1807 to 1811. That is when the two buttons you found were worn by his soldiers. Christophe had himself made king in 1811, and he ruled as king from 1811 to 1820. The soldiers from this time wore phoenix buttons on their uniforms. Christophe suffered a stroke, his soldiers rebelled, and he committed suicide in 1820. Great finds
