Need Historic maps for Texas

see my new post on sanborn fire insurance maps. also barnes and noble has a very large book of civil war maps on sale for thirty dollars. about 500 maps in it. originally retailed for around 100.00 called maps of the civil war.

thanks I will do that, under what area did you post the fire insurance info?/

Go to www.livgenmi.com. Click on the 1885 atlas then click your state then your county also go to library of congress maps general then do a search on texas. This internet has givin a new dimension to our art. I found a site with the list of all the forts our state had and where they were. I also found a site with all the skirmishes the third calvary ever had. Though there are a lot of bad things that go with this internet it has truly opened up a new avenue of communication for us artists. I have been thinking someday I would like to teach a course at the community college. Maybe I'll call it metal detecting before you go to the field. WBB

HITMAN-? ?go to? ? www.archives.gov/research_room/arc/? ? ?press the yellow search button, on basic search screen type civil works map file in keyword box, limit results to 100, press go button, click on title link for civil works map file, scroll down till you see 185 items and click on the words 185 items. this will bring up several maps and some of your area are to be found here

Cool I will give it a try, I live in the Spring area just north of Houston, alot of Indian and French trading went on in the area near here...

Try the main branch of your local library (I think that may be the link that Buckram posted). Also check with your city, county or state historical society. Also go to http://www.usgenweb.com/ and click on your state. You may find useful maps here. I believe someone already mentioned the Library of Congress but you might also check with your local or nearest location of the Texas State University System or just start with this link to their main page http://www.tsus.edu/. Good luck and HH.

hitman, while staying app. 27 miles north of houston at a comfort inn on left of hwy 59 i think as going towards nacadoches there was empty lot just past comfort inn that had more peices of blue glass and very old broken china than i have ever seen in one spot. directly behind this was a golf course. maybe i have given you enough info to locate spot. would definantly be worth detecting from what i saw, but i was working and didn't have my equipment with me.

Dude!! where you from???I will do research on this and tell you an exact location identifier, there are only 3 Comfort Inns on 59 to nacogdoches, how did you stumble on this??? want to meet there next week??? let me know, thanks for the lead

i am from north carolina. do a lot of traveling on my job. spotted this stuff while walking around bored from motel life. the motel was exactly 27 miles from downtown houston at i-10 . maybe around kingwood i think there was a storage unit place straight across 59 from the motel. if you are facing the motel the lot you want will be on the right side. several trees on lot but the glass and china could be found all over lot all the way to the parking lot for the comfort inn. may be comfort suites but they are the same i think. good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I will be up that way on buisness next week , I will check it out. I know about where you are talking. Will let you know if anything is there. Maybe a dumping ground for the hotel, who knows....Thanks for the lead and I will keep you updated.
