I have a 1960 D penny that looks silver, aluminum, or something else. Can anyone help me identify what type of metal or what it could be? And if its worth anything?

:cross: Don't handle this coin, I fear its coated in mercury...:cross: Could be electroplated silver but it does not look like it, :icon_scratch: looks like mercury... Do your fingers feel greasy after handling it ? :icon_thumleft: Keep @ it and HH !! :hello2:

I guess you would have had to see it in person. But someone said it may have been dipped in mercury. I don't know but I will let you know shortly

What do you mean by saying cross and and don't handle but yet scratch or rub it. Apologies.. .But I don't understand.

Lol, :laughing7:

Its OK, if you rub your fingers on the coin. Then rub your fingers together to see if they get greasy. But, if they do wash your hands thoroughly and don't handle them anymore. A little contact won't harm you but prolonged exposure or licking your fingers will be harmful..

Keep @ it and HH !! :hello2:

From Wiki:

Mercury poisoning (also known as hydrargyria or mercurialism) is a disease caused by exposure to mercury or its compounds. Mercury (chemical symbol Hg) is a heavy metal occurring in several forms, all of which can produce toxic effects in high enough doses. Its zero oxidation state Hg0 exists as vapor or as liquid metal, its mercurous state Hg22+ exists as inorganic salts, and its mercuric state Hg2+ may form either inorganic salts or organomercury compounds; the three groups vary in effects. Toxic effects include damage to the brain, kidney, and lungs.[1] Mercury poisoning can result in several diseases, including acrodynia (pink disease),[2] Hunter-Russell syndrome, and Minamata disease.[3]

Symptoms typically include sensory impairment (vision, hearing, speech), disturbed sensation and a lack of coordination. The type and degree of symptoms exhibited depend upon the individual toxin, the dose, and the method and duration of exposure.
