Looks (to me) like it might be part of a hinge for a box.

Hadn't thought of that. Would make an odd looking hinge.

I can't seem to find any hinges that remotely resemble this thing. I have no clue.

Believe it or not I found this yesterday, and we also think it is a book hinge. Mine has a flower or tulip on the front. The 2 pins would permanantly attack to one leatherstrap and the hook would attach to the other strap with a slot cut in it. Book hinge.

I agree...its a book clasp

I think you guys are correct. I really need to work on my research skills. Any idea what age it might be? I'm gonna take a wild guess and say........... circa. 1750-1820.

What do you think????

The top item in the misc. items picture , the flat rectangular item is part of a harmonica. The reeds fit into the slots. Monty
