I found this the other day buried about 12-14" down. When I pulled it out it was super rusty, but it cleaned up really nice in the electrolysis tank. The area I found it in has a lot of railroad and logging history going back well over 100 years. I was thinking it went on a telegraph pole? No idea lol. Thanks for looking!

A hanger of some kind? That is I believe a timber lag screw. Seems I've seen those types screws used on telephone poles. :dontknow:

Yeah the shape of the threads definitely tells me it is for screwing into wood. The head of the bolt is square, not sure if/when they stopped using square headed bolts. The area I found it in had several logging camps as well as housing for railroad workers from the turn of the century until about wwII.

Anyone else have any guesses? This thing is mighty heavy and the iron "hook" part is about 2 inches wide and easily 1/2" thick. It was definitely made to handle some weight.

i don't know what that is but I have one too, it even has that rounded profile. Mine was found on a beach where I have found other log boom related items, like chains, spikes, cables etc.

Could it be a "chain or cable stay" to help hold logs together either for dragging or floating?
