Hope someone out there can help me ID this neet jug that Dwyane found last season.
It looks German to me and has a hunting scene molded around it. It appears to be 19th cent. but might be older. Has anyone seen this style of jug around before or know anything about them? Any help would be appreciated, there must be more of them around still.

Thanks ZDD

Thanks Bottle Hunter. Damn shame about the damage, I ofton wonder if the damage was done after it was on the bottom by anchors and such.

That is beautiful the fact that its not in a thousand pieces is amazing I would take it any day.

Looks like 19th century salt glaze stoneware with applied modeled decorations. Very nice.

Hey ZDD,

Not so fast, sez me. There were multiple makers of these hunt jugs. Deciphering the sprigs is a bit outside my ken. The one sprig that is throwing me for a loop is that fleur de lys. Could it be pointing toward Wales?

If y'all want to sit on the sidelines with me scratching our collective heads, have a long look here: Brown Jugs

Another excellent article from the same source is here: Thames-side Hunting Jugs

I just got an email from the guy who found it, turns out it was my buddy Dana not Dwayne. He can't find any makers mark on the bottom so I doubt it is a Royal Doulton. We also notice the differences in the sprigs.
I am learning alot about these jugs and am truly greatfull for everyones help.
I also noticed that these were used back in the 19th C and I found a similar jug with a different motif commemorating Queen Victorias Golden Jubilee back in 1887.

If unmarked then it's not Doulton, like Surf said there are other makers of this type of stuff though...
