I can see the pinkish color of the copper showing through, silver plated.

Is that not a lion and crown hallmark i can see on the close up photo?

IMO... you have a rare silver spoon.

Do me a favor... take a rag and give it a good rub... clean it in other words... and take another picture of markings.

I can see the pinkish color of the copper showing through, silver plated.

Silver turns this color many times.

Also... silver can appear gold... or a various of colors that lead many to believe it is not real.

Rubbing / cleaning it can reveal the truth... testing will positively reveal the truth.

BTW... great find.

And please tell us what the letters are on the underside. I can't quite make them out...

I can't read the lettering. Like the others said a good cleaning might help. Nice spoon.

Doesn't look plated to me based on the pics posted & nicks in the neck. I see hallmarks as well.

Squire & Lander used a lot of coin silver, which may be why it doesn't have the full set of hallmarks that would indicate it was sterling. They were out of New York, rather than Birmingham that the lion might have suggested. According to this site they operTed from 1855-1870: Silversmiths - S
