Need help with rock ID

Hi,

I found a pitted red rock on the Outer Banks of NC. It weighs about 4 lbs. and is definitely metallic, it made my metal detector go off. It certainly looked out of place on the beach. It's surface is rough and dull. Any ideas?

Hi,

After much trial and error I figured out how to resize and post the pictures. So here goes, it looks like a blob of hamburger meat.

P.S. My Bounty Hunter doesn't pick up anything on the rock, but the Tesoro Tiger Shark does. Any ideas?

A hot rock is a rock with mineralization, sometimes to much for a detector to handle.

Oh, okay. Does that mean it's probably not full of gold or some other precious metal?

It can be as gold also is a mineral.
There are many minerals.Here is a few on a list:

Quote form google on abouve website:
"Over 4442 mineral species descriptions are included in this HTML-linked alphabetical listing of all known valid mineral species."
But probably not any gold or other precious metal, as one detector does ignore it of the two you tested.(gold is mostly found "clean")

Looks like a piece of Tuff to me. That is, volcanic rock.
