Hey guys I got this 2001 state quarter in some change. There's no copper ridge around the edge at all. It appears the two sides we're put together offset from each other. Is this a mistake or did someone somehow mess with it. Here's a few pics but not the best pics. Any info would be great seeing that since I joined tnet and reading everyone's stories I'm getting hooked. Tx lol.

Man its hard to tell what anything is with those blurry pictures, but it looks like the coin was an error strike.

Hen do thank you. Here are a few more pics hopefully not as blurry. If it is an error strike is that common.

That is cool, I see quarters come out of the lake with the copper eatin away, Not sure on yours though.

Just curious how it's weight compares to a regular quarter.

Kind of looks damaged in the tale side pic.

Both sides are off center from each other. Like one side was not in the die right. Also the face edge of one side has the raised outside edge all the way around while the other side has none The edge has no rim at all. I can see into the quarter completely around it. Like it was never there. I just don't get it.

I think its a coin that's been in the water. Maybe found by someone, tumbled and put back in circulation. I don't think the front and back are off center...looks like part of the ring edge is missing and gives it that appearance.

I have dug quarters and dimes like that from salt water beaches. I believe the copper dissolves faster than the metal on the outside.

There are state quarters with off center strikes and oversized planchet strikes. It's possible yours could be one of those. From what I've read, the more offset the strike is, the more valuable. A strike that is about 90% offset with all legends and mint mark visible is valued around $300. A slight offset or misstrike is more common. If that's what is going on with yours, it's probably worth a few dollars. Cool find!
