That's definately a shield nickel, not easy to find one of those nice find! Unfortunately they rust, on the plus side nickel is very hard. I had some shield nickels that were rusty and nothing of any key date value so I ran them through a rock tumbler with fish tank gravel, water, and some laundry detergent. This brought out a lot of detail including the tiny dates.

:o Poppa, congrats on your first Shield 5 center. Not much value with the one you found other than to yourself. You can clean it just about anyway you want and be proud of it!
HH and keep 'em coming

Yep, a shield. My only came out of the ground just like that, and I couldn't get a date off it. Still, I can say I've found one. Nice find.

Congratulations on the Shield Nickel!

I know you'll always remember finding that one!

Nice job!
