Your button is a general service eagle button and with that particular Scovill mark can date 1860 to 1870.

Well it LOOKS like a general service CW era button,
Why do you think it may not be?

yours is in the upper LH corner.

Good find.

Not a button expert far from it thought "general service button" meant from early 1900's on but I was wrong. You guys teach me a ton thanks for the ID. It's in real great shape for the age. 1st one I have ever dug. :icon_thumleft:

Glad to be of help. congrats on your first civil war button. I hope you dig lots more.
To help you a bit. The type of eagle on your button was used from about 1850 until 1875. Then they changed to a goofy looking turkey neck eagle. They used that until 1902 when they changed to the Great seal button.
