It is from fort Garland Colorado was new Mexico territory until 1861 the fort was built in 1858 and was closed down by the military 1883 after the Indians was under control yes it could be a civilian piece because the officers family lived with them at the fort.the first fort was fort was fort Massachusetts built in 1853 til 1858 in Colorado where they moved 6 miles south.to fort garland.so pre civil war, civil war, Indian war.how would you guys like to metal detect this great history I'm from North Carolina and did not know this history.it was so important to history.if the confederates would have made it through new Mexico the war out come would have been different.you guys don't think about the west.they sent them to the south to fight the civil war and then after take on the indians.so if anybody knows about Indian wars from pre civil to after civil 1865 please let me know.
