Need help with ID on this!!! Never found one of these.

I found this at a very old early 1800s house site. Thought I had a cattle tag but when I cleaned it has The Stag written on it no 12? Any idea what this is

Could be a tool check tag, hotel room key tag, baggage claim tag....is it brass?

FWIW, there was a Stag Hotel Corporation in Virginia in the early 1900's...could have been in business in the 1800's for all I know. If found in Virginia, I think one can make an argument that it's a key fob from one of their hotels. One hotel was located in Norfolk, I'm sure there were others....

Yes found in Hanover VA. It is brass. Very interesting.

the stag hotel=== room #12 key ID tag / fob -- would be my guess..
