Baker or Adena; If I am correct the Baker points appear to be less tapered on the base stem than the Adena points. I may be wrong, so I'll leave it to the more knowledgable eastern guru. Also, very nice axe.

We need better pictures of the Point, but from what I can see I don't think it's an Adena. It looks more like an Archaic Stemmed type to me. The Axe is a typical Illinois type Axe and a very nice one. Are they both field finds or creek finds?

The stemmed point predates Adena I believe. I think SRV is right on that it's a late Archaic stemmed point. It's a fairly common type in southern Illinois. It looks to be made out of Burlington which is an appropirate material for the type and the area. They're both nice artifacts. I assume if your brother found these he has a decent collection of additional artifacts?

I'm in the Adena stemmed camp since the stem tapers a bit. Archaic points tend to have more parallel stems.

No these are the only artifacts he has just found them one day on the tractor.

I think it is an adena, too. Nice axe. I've only found one in all the years I've been artifact hunting.

I'd suggest asking exactly where he found them and going back. If he picked those two up off the tractor there are a lot more of them laying around waiting to be found. Of send me the location and I'll go pick them up : )

yeah um thats not an adena but it does appear to be burlington :icon_study:

Nice axe and point. The point is older than the axe. Thanks for the view.
