Found this shoe buckle last Sat at a colonial site, and according to the UK finds database it dates to 1690-1720. The chape has the name of the maker on it, and the consensus it that the first letter is an old English "J" (which looks like an "I"). So the name would have to be either Jesson, or J. Esson. But I cannot find any reference to that name as a buckle or chape maker. Anyone recognize this name?
