I found this brass coin with a md

Can't make out the full wording on the back. But can't find any info at all on it

And found this ike dollar in my drawer

It's a bicentennial. Definitely more shiny like a proof. But the mint mark is weird. I know the Denver mint mark is a hollow d. This mint mark looks like a combination of an s. And a d

Any idea. And value ?

Thanks in advance

Bob

Nice token !

the Filled Mint Mark on the Ike is a pretty common thing
it happen as the Dies go bad from heavy use

Thanks for the answers. It's funny because looking quickly at the
Mint mark it almost looks like a smashed s.

I made a mistake with the token picture

Here is the back. Can't find any info going through google

I wish I could make out all the lettering on the back

But I can see first line

W. J
Second line

Diamond Ma (third letter r or p)

Forgot to mention the token is the same size as a quarter

I was wondering why you said you Can't make out the full wording on the back :tongue3:

Your pics need to be sharper to see all, I do see the Word DIAMOND

A little clearer pic

Put a piece of paper over the token and then gently rub the paper with the side of a pencil point,if the wording is still there it will show up.

Would that be Diamond Merchant? Also possibly helpful, an idea about where you found it? City, State?

You guys are awesome!!' Makes sense that I live in pittsburgh. It seems that our famous market square in downtown used to be called diamond square

Market Square (Pittsburgh) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

So I guessing that it was issued to a merchant in pittsburgh I the 1890's? I will do some searching on the morning to see if I can find out the merchant. Is this token something that has monetary value? Or just historical. Meaning can it go on the shelf. Or does it need to be cases and protected

Thanks

Just needs a simple cardboard/cellophane "flip", the token could have a value of $20.00-$25.00 i'd have to check some book's,BUT when you see 3(or more) of the same token,Especially in the tokencatalog it leads ME to believe they are fairly common but very very cool!!! nice find!...Of the 90 or so tokens in the tokencatalog from Erie,PA. 1/2 are mine..tokenhed58..HH ALL!!!

Awesome thanks. Definitely keeping this guy because of the age. I guess this puts me in the 1800 club? Who do I contact to submit it to the token catalog. ?

I have done a few hours searching and can not find a business from pittsburgh during that time period that matches the bkw on the front. I did find that at that time period. A beer was 10 cents.

Turbo--you can post pics on tokencatalog.com yourself. Instructions are on the site. Do take straight-on photos with the best lighting you can get so as many of the reverse details show as possible. Not all Diamond Market-made tokens are from Pittsburgh, but most are.

With your permission, I can post it to tokencatalog if you don't want to. Still need better photos, diameter in mm, and the name you want to have used as "photos courtesy of"

Turbo--

The maker of your token was W. J. Davis whose shop was in Diamond Market in the 1880s. This listing is from the 1885 Pittsburgh City Directory
1885 Pittsburg cd.webp

He made the tokens with his "signature" on the reverse and then stamped his customer's name/initials/value/etc. on the obverse. His was a fairly small operation, so most of his customers were local, but that is not a guarantee that an appropriate business (liquor dealer, etc.) with initials BKW will be from Pittsburgh, but it is probable.

I'd be happy to post your pics on tokencatalog.com but you can go to the site, register, and do it yourself. If you'd like me to do it, it would help to have "straight-on" pics of both sides with the best lighting you can come up with to show the details. Also need diameter (in mm, but I can convert) and what name you'd like me to put in the "photos courtesy of" blank.
