Found this last week just getting around to posting pics. Guessing General service button. Any info on age? Back is completely gone on it size of a quarter. Thanks!

almost looks like a staff officers button.

Looks a lot like this U.S. General Staff Officer button except the shield on that button contains 5 stars and yours appears to have 7. Seems likely your button falls into this category though. Date would be CW era if this is the case.

They are correct, General Staff Officers. It is in Tices Button Book, GS 13 C, 23 mm, page 293. Manufactured by Waterbury Button Co. Probable Civil War.
