I found small button around a old farmhouse. I need help identifying it. Front of button is unrecognizable and the back has " Marriott & Hardesty, Baltimore, MD" on it. It is a flat button with the shank on the back. Sorry I have no way of posting a pic at this time. I was hoping someone could help with the makers mark. Thanks in advance for your help.

A company called Marriott & Hardesty of Baltimore, MD was dissolved in 1848. I only found reference to the court case. No indication if it was a button mfg.

Is your button flat? Two piece? A picture would help a lot...

Thanks for your reply. It is a small flat button, about the size of a dime. Sorry I can not post a picture at this time. I will try to find a way to post one later.

References on the company range from the 1830's - 1848.

If the button is flat, 1830 - 1850 is a safe bet.
