Need help with brass whatsit

Found this dollar size plate the other day.Says Morley 6 Lever.Thought it may be part of a padlock but cant find any info to verify.Just curious...thanks ...Joe

Hi, Saw your item and decided to register and help you out with this. You are correct in that it is part of an old Padlock. You have a faceplate that would be on the front of the lock. Someone must have put some effort in to get it apart though, as they were really built to last. It would date from the late 1800's or so but I am not familiar with the Morley brand. The six lever name refers to the lock mechanism. Many were made of heavy brass and are still around at estate sales, flea markets and the like. Nice find... Midnightguy 8)

HI, Morley also made musical instrument...harps,lever guitars etc.that date back to 1800's
