Went detecting today finally since the weather was cool enough to keep the bugs down. Went to a spot I have neglected for some time.
Found a few items, mostly some shot gun head stamps. Also found what looks to be a shaker top for a jar or canister, an ink well with out a bottom, a fancy square bottle neck, and some king of brass item with some fine threading in the middle.
This spot appears to be some kind of trash pit or dump area from the old house across the street. When I hit the brass epaulet, I thought it may have been a zinc cap. It was down about 7". The good thing was I didn't strike it hard with my trowel or try to yank it out of the ground. That was some surprise for me. About 10 feet away I found the pack hook. It is brass with what appears to be a lead end.
What I need is some help in IDing these items. I am just starting to do a web search however you are all much faster than any web browser! Maybe that epaulet is only for an old band uniform or something, although I am hoping it is military.
Thanks for any insight and keep the coil low!
