My friend has been given a small metal cup, believed to have come from his grandmother. Metal is unknown, maybe tarnished silver or pewter? Has engravings on all sides and a braid along the lip. In my opinion, it looks machine made, but I'm no expert. Small maker's mark on base, I've got no idea what it stands for.

Thanks for lookin'!

After having a hard look at the cup, I think it might be the base of a tea cup from an Arabic/Moroccan/Turkish tea cup. Possibly brass?

Good ID. It is called a zarf - a holder for a coffee cup. Maybe Turkish silver.

A candle holder was my thought at first, but it looks way too big. Actually holding it in the hand, it seems like it'd be too deep to be a viable "lighting" device, plus would probably get hotter 'n hell from the heat transfer. Didn't see any residue internally that would indicate wax, either.

I think DCMatt probably has it right as a "zarf". The figures are wearing what looks like Middle Eastern robes and headwear, and the size looks like the few sets I've seen in person. I'd love to see what the rest of this set looks like!
