Found both of the buttons at a park that dates to 1887. Both were fairly deep.

Was it common years ago for archers at meets to wear clothing with this type of button? It may have been painted black and is probably brass in the front and steel on the back. Anyone ever seen one like this?

The fancy button needed a lot of cleaning to reveal any detail or writing. Probably all brass or copper. The back says 'SNAP-A-LINK'. Any info about the manufacturer and/or age would be appreciated.

I guess you mean the bottom button? Those quotes you have are great.

Here's a couple more pictures of the second button if it is a button and not some kind of snap.

Thanks Jim. Was this type of cuff link common years ago? I don't remember ever seeing one before.

The additional photos helped....

You have found a vintage cuff link.

Or a shirt stud. Shirt studs were first used around the middle of the nineteenth century and are still used today on tuxedo shirts. I have a modern set that looks similar to this one. I would guess yours is late Victorian.

My very first thought was shirt studs, but, the writing in the small end would have shown as that is the part visible when wearing them - small end expossed.

I dunno... I'm just going on what these folks advertise, maybe they are shirt studs.

I see the similarities with the cufflinks and shirt studs, but I'm going with a blue jean or overall button.
