Need help with a beach find

Found this just above the high tide line down about 5 or 6 inches. Rang up as a 60 on my AT Pro.

I assume it's some sort of pendant since it looks like it has a hole for the chain. My questions are:

1. Could it possibly be old? It's not symmetrical so that makes me think it was hand made.

2. Material? It looks like copper, but copper usually rings higher on my ATP.

3. Is there something I can soak it in to remove the hard crusty material without doing any damage.

I know I haven't given much to go on, but any help would be appreciated. Thanks.





 

Four leaf clover?? Copper is usually the base metal before most plating. Tony
