Lamp winders employ teeth/sprockets to engage wick.
Threaded may be a factor I've not noticed , but no threads needed for wick winding.
If knob /shaft was screwed into matching threads it could determine the depth that the pointed end blocked/restricted a venturi or orifice.:dontknow:

By no means am I stating this is what it is from, only noting how it may have been used.chainsaw13.webp

It is a needle valve. It's a fuel needle from an old carb off a hit&miss engine, tractor. model T Zenith type carbuerator etc. The engine in my avatar has one. Tony
