*SOLVED* Need HELP! Square Coin/Token???? With Crown...

It's been about a month since I've been out, but finally got out for a couple hours on Tuesday morning. I went to a field in SE Virginia that I've never hunted before. Wasn't sure what to expect, but came up with a couple coins: 1910 wheatie/1879 Indian and a couple pieces of civil war lead(small cal rounds). Then I came across this little piece that I need help with. It's obviously not an American coin/token...My guess is English or Spanish maybe? The front? side has a crown with an X below it, and looks like an "S" below the X. On the reverse side it appears to have a cross, with a crown on top, and two shields on either side? At the bottom of the piece when holding it in the right light I swear I can make out a possible date of 16_7. The pictures didn't capture that though.

I need help identifying this! If anyone out there recognizes it, please please help. Could be my oldest find yet!!! Thanks in advance!

Happy Hunting!

-Nate

After many replies from this forum and others I have figured out that what I found is a James VI/James I "Sword and Sceptre" coin weight. Based on what I could see as a date of 16_7, I have been able to determine that this is likely a 1607 coin weight. Finding one of these in the states is truly a rare find and I feel very fortunate to have recovered it. I'd like to say a special thanks to the following people from this site and others for helping me figure this out:

CRUSADER, Breezie, nhbenz, Battlecry4, Jeff in Georgia & Voriax

Thank you all so much!

Happy Hunting!

The James VI sword and sceptre piece was worth 120 shillings (yes, Cru, 6 pounds), weight 78.5 grains and was composed of 22 ct. The issue was minted from 1601 through 1604.

They never did a 1607 weight for this type only a 1602, look carefully I can see the tail of the 2.

Mackaydon's research is always spot on, so I'm a little confused why the book says it was 10 Shillings in England. Other than a massive difference between Scottish & English currency at the time.

The reason it had the 'X' (10 Shillings) under the crown, this would imply that the weight used mostly in England to check foriegn coins was produced no earlier than 1603.
