I need some input as to what this may have been part of. I know that it has to be at least 100 yrs old, and I was thinking that it was the front assembly to maybe a type of tricycle that was steered by it's front wheel. As you can see the hole is threaded to hold the bracket and wheel together. This threaded hole would also control the turning of the wheel. Can anyone help me in figuring out what the rest of it may have been?

It looks like you have the front end of an early Velocipede which is basically an early term for bicycle. yours doesn't have pedals which means it's either from a three wheeler, or an early rear wheel drive. Some of them were pretty elaborate and complicated......

Thanks Ken! You will notice that on the fork that there are four drilled holes, where it was bolted on to a flat surface.

I think it is part of an old tricycle. the forks look like they would bolt to a wooden seat. Yhe kind of tricycle that scoots, not peddles.

Yeah, it may be from a contraption like this. Not an exact match to your parts, but maybe something similar.....

I was envisioning that it was very similar to this. Maybe there was a platform to put a person's feet on. I was just hoping someone might find a photo to go by.

Thank you Ken!

Alright all you Wizards out there, let's not just sweep this one under the rug. Put your thinking caps and lets figure this one one out. I know your always looking for the easy ones, but I know that there are a few out there that have the resources to help me out on this one. So don't let the cat bite your tongue.

I'm just going on an assumption that the wheel is about 16" tall by the bricks in the background. To me it looks like the rear wheel from an old wheelchair albeit large for one. With all the rounded edges and corners it wouldn't surprise me if it had more of a spherical headed fastner to hold the fork to the frame. To keep people from snagging clothing while pushing it around?

image.jpg or maybe a precursor to this? The little trailer in the middle of the page?
