I found a ring today, which I thought was silver plated, but after cleaning it at home I saw that it had 18K H.G.E.G. on the inside . What does this stand for. It's a very nice ring with a square cut emerald and a diamond on each side(one missing). Help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Are you sure it also has a g after e ?

HGE from what I know means that it is a base metal with a very thin layer of gold.

Pic would help

It definitely has a G after the E. I tried to take a picture but it was too blurry.

heavy gold electroplated----HGE---looks like the last "mark" is somewhat differant ---some type of a "makers mark" maybe ---its a 18 K heavy gold electroplated ring --- an while still a very nice find in anyones book---(i'd be quite happy to find it) its not a fully gold ring or a "real" one as most folks would say---Ivan
