Best known for his powerful portrayals of the American wilderness, Thomas Cole (1801-1848) was the United States’ first great landscape painter. He radically changed both the nature of landscape painting and the way Americans perceived their new nation.

Is this the guy you decided it was not?

The painting you have looks rather new and very unlike the style & subjects attributed
to the Thomas Cole we're all thinking about. . . it would be nice though.

The only info about "Collectors Corner" that came up was a question someone had asked regarding
the "round seal" of authenticity on the back of the canvas. . . seems this person was also trying to
track down some artist info about a painting they had and they too were unsuccessful with any answers.

I'm wondering if this painting may be from one of those original art "boatload" sales
that are held at some convention center and sell for less than $30 for "This Weekend Only" :P

??? ??? ???

i HAVE SEEN THE PAINTINGS YOU ARE REFERING TOO AND BELIEVE ME THE DETAIL YOU CANT SEE IN THE PICTURES POSTED IS UNREAL.
THIS ARTIST SHOULD BE WELL KNOWN.
AND THE FRAME ISNT CHEEP EITHER.

There are a lot of very good artists with great talent that are unfortunately, never formally recognized or cataloged.
Another thought would be to contact Christie's in New York and ask to speak to one of their fine art specialists. . . explain your situation and they will more than likely perform a quick search for you. . . Good luck!

There are even today dozens of outlets for "starving artists" and you're completely correct... they have extream talent!

I also believe this is a defunct painting clearing-house company - and prolly an unknown.

It may be a whim, but you could get lucky contacting the Thomas Cole site:

http://www.thomascole.org/index.html

It's either him, or it's not. The signature should settle the issue. If it's him, you have a valuable painting. If it's not, maybe they've had inquiries before and know who the real artist is. If you want to have some fun with them, tell them you paid $150,000 for the painting and now you want to authenticate it.

A lot of those paintings advertised for those "starving artist" sales you see in hotel conference rooms are assembly line paintings. One person paints the background, another paints the foreground, another person paints the sky, etc. I always figure any painting with a good frame is worth $20. Check out the prices to get something framed these days. You're lucky to get out for less than $100 regardless of what you are getting framed.

Just tidying up some blasts from the past (including some very ancient ones), largely for the benefit of anyone searching the site for information.

Collectors Corner, Inc. operated a “home party” scheme for selling “art” and were most active during the 1980s. You could sign up as an agent and, for a membership fee, they provided a bunch of unframed paintings that you could sell from the comfort of your own home by inviting friends and acquaintances to a cheese and wine party or whatever. As an agent, you were also provided with various samples for framing options and a catalogue of other available works.

Prices were mostly in the region of a $100-$350, ranging up to as much as $1500 for large framed works but the “Certificate of Authenticity” isn’t worth the paper it’s printed on. Self-certified by the company producing them, and as an authentic what? The marketing spiel regurgitated to prospective customers was that they were buying an investment piece of original art, not just something to hang on the wall. In reality the paintings were mass-produced and many of them were textured prints embellished by hand to further improve their resemblance to original paintings. The artist name will be a studio pseudonym likely used by multiple artists and the fact that there was an established 19th Century artist named Thomas Cole will not be a coincidence.
