Need help on ID of a colonial button

A buddy of mine found this button while metal detecting. I can't seem to find any information on it whatsoever.
What I can make out...I believe, are the words Gold, Imperial and colour.
It's about the size of a dime or a little larger
Any help would be appreciated

I don't think colonial buttons had backmarks. My guess would be early 1800's.

Your button is definitely early 1800s...not colonial unfortunately. I've found a ton of buttons like yours that have backmarks with some combination of the following words

extra rich superior gold orange colour imperial standard plate treble gilt etc, etc
