I found this flat button today in west central Mississippi. The backmark reads: E.T. Moore/Extra Rich.
I can't seem to find anything on it. Was this an American or a British button manufacturer? What does it date to?
Thanks for any help. I know some of you out there really know your buttons. Thanks.

Thats from the looks a first half 19th century button. "extra rich" refers to it being gilded like trebel gilt, rich orange and the like.

These came normally from England. The only thing that make me think is that it is branded, as these is highly unusual. So take the above with caution.

Perhaps someone who knows what the brand refers to will post.

That backmark is listed in McGuinn/Bazelon book of American Military Button Makers and Dealers, Their Backmarks & Dates, but there is not much information given other than a date. Here is what it says:

I don't know for certain but I suspect this could be a Birmingham, England manufacturer. E.T. Moore (Edward Tilsley Moore) was a merchant there c. 1820s-1830s.

Here is an ad from 1821 (Bath Chronicle) which shows he is trading overseas as well. I also found another ad where he is representing the New York City merchant George Bingley in bankruptcy claims. Also a link from 1824 New York which has an auction listing for his buttons.
