Hi there,, I found this loop type object in the mud flats off a beach of Nova Scotia CA,, Was using my Mindlab Safari and it was reading 29 high tone and was in the ground around 15inchs .... I did clean with a scotch pad looks like gold but not sure, I ordered the test kit just to have when I run into this kinda problem won't be here for 2-5 day! Any other ideas how to tell if it gold ,copper or brass? Thanks IMG_20150505_181452.jpgIMG_20150505_181502.jpgIMG_20150505_181605.jpg

Wow... you may just have found something there...
This looks very ... very old and def handmade.

Could be ship related...
Rope hole cover something...
Will be watching this...
And will look at a few things.

Interesting.

P.S... I am not trying to bust bubble...
But my guess would be bronze.
But ya just never know... I have seen some strange things.
I agree with the bronze brass. Looks like an eyelet for a strap. Saddle? Ship? etc...

This is not as old as yours obviously, but it is listed as a latch gommet for a leather pouch.

Great ID DCMatt. Its definitely not gold. SOLVED You rarely need to clean gold with a scotch pad even in saltwater environment. Thats why its so valuable. It doesnt corrode.
