It looks legit... I mean, it's exactly like an Indian Head Cent.

I can't imagine what else it could be...?

Indian Head cents struck between 1859 and 1864 contained 88% copper and 12% nickel, and weighed 4.67 gramss. After that, the alloy was changed to 95% copper and 5% tin & zinc, and the weight was reduced to 3.11 grams.

So, yes— earlier Indian Heads like this one were both paler and heavier/thicker than later ones.

When they were first minted people called them white cents because of the paler look to them. That 1861 is a semi-key date.

True... and during the earliest days of their circulation, they were also known as "nickels" or "nicks." :wink:
