Hey folks!

Went back to a permission today and found the following piece:

Rang up like a 12-22 to 12-24 on the CTX (higher than nickel, lower than zinc penny) and was found at 4 inches. I’ve found items in this yard dating back to the 1880s. I did find a general enlistment coat button in this same yard a few weeks ago.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Maybe WW1 Infantry badge, just a guess. I think they started using the crossed rifles around 1875. Nice find.

From my vantage point the rifles appear to be bolt action, if so it couldn't be older than 1903, that is when Springfields replaced Muskets on the crossed rifle insignia.

Might be a civilian badge like a hunting club or rod and gun club, with USA being the United States of America versus United States Army.
