Piece on left is Masonic. I think its broken on top. Is the front and back the same? Are they gold?

That is a little door that goes over the center of the cross

Yes, it does look like the piece on the left covered the stone in the middle of the cross.

H.T.W.S.S.T.K.S. - "HIRAM THE WIDOW'S SON SENT TO KING SOLOMON." or
"HIRAM, TYRIAN, WIDOW'S SON, SENDETH TO KING SOLOMON"

There should be a hole for the pin to go through the one piece to attach to the other. Nice item and is repairable.

The design on the reverse of the cross appears to be a Masonic Royal Arch. Here's another version:

Masonic for sure. If you can't find it on line, ask around a local Lodge. Someone will be collecting and will be able to help. You may also find an offer to buy that will be difficult to say no to.

i am the friend who found the cross. i have been hunting this field about a year now and always it gives up somthing good i found out the property has been in the persons family since the 1860s i have found flying eagle cents 1/2 reales three cent pieces large cents barber money civil war buttons and bullets also two slave tags and a medallion with the date april 30 1789 with a picture of george washington on one side and the brooklyn bridge on the other side anyway i found the cross the day before easter in the middle of a 60 acer field and was quite shocked when i got it home and washed it off i discoverd it should have had a door. that night my wife and i talked it over and the next morning after breakfast i wnet back to the same area in hopes to find the door. after about 45 min. i was disapointed and headed to the truck when i got a faint signal . at about 10-1/2 inches deep there it was the door. and by the way the croos was about 12-1/2 inches deep

yes its the royal arch degree and the two "parts" do go togetrher -- it is without a doubt masonic * and the lettering means exactly as stated -- there are masonic collectors * of such items --- as a 14 kt gold do dad to you --its cool ----- however to a mason --it means much more. and might fetch --you a hefty price. (my dad was a past master of the lodge)

ok here go,s i have found out that the property that i have been finding all these treasures . hte owners great grandfather came from holland on three mast ship named the spotted cow set up orchards and planted over 3000 trees there were two packing houses on the property . so as i found older things on the property i had to dig a little deeper and found out that the property belonged to john haslet who faught and died at the battle of prinston in the civil war jan. 3rd 1777 so that explained the older objects. but back to the cross the presant owner said he has never plowed deeper than 8" deep so i think an object of this size would setle about 2inches every 100 years so that would put the age of the croos at about late 1600,s or early 1700,s what do you think

Messick81, I'll say it once again, I feel that is a very good find. I have know clue as to its age mainly because the symbology that mason's used back then are similar if not the same today. Are there any hallmarks or makers marks on the piece? Look up around the clasp area for a 14k, 18k, etc. stamp. Document all you find out about this piece real well and keep us updated. Maybe post over in today's finds with the information you have given and hey, you never know, maybe the folks over there will think its Banner worthy. You have my vote simply because of the "unique-ness" of it. Weigh the piece so you know the gold weight. Right on! And welcome to Treasurenet! :icon_sunny:

What is the piece in the center under the door? Is it a gemstone or was it a picture?
