Is the first item metal or wood? Looks to me like the decorative top to a fence or hand rail.

The size of that button is the size of the end of my little finger. It has some gilt left along the the base edge.

Here is a picture of the flat buttons we found. They vary in size.
Any thoughts on age. We think civil war because all of these items are about 200 yards from our civil war site where we fhave found over 300 bullets.
We are in northern Virginia right outside dc.

Colosprings73, I thought you were partial to Tesoro Tejon. Do you still have it? Why the Minelab 3030? And what changed your mind? Do you get more depth on targets with he 3030 near trash, etc. now? how much on silver dimes, quarters?
