I'm thinking it's part of an old horse bridle . how big is it ?

Looks like a seatbelt buckle... but I don't think the seat belt era coulld match the patina unless they were putting them on horse buggies!

Opps.... forgot.... :P Really, it looks like a cheek plate for a horse halter.
