Hello everyone, I just joined and this is my very first post so please bear with me. I went md on Thanksgiving day at an old house site where a Military fort supposedly stood at one time. This is in extreme southwestern Virginia. I found a beltplate there that I can't get much info. about on the internet. I did find one photo on one website of the exact beltplate. It is approx. 2" square, it has the "Federal Eagle" on it facing to it's Right. E. Pluribus Unum just above the eagle. The eagle has 3 arrows in it's left talons and an olive branch in the right talons. There are 17 six pointed stars arched above the Eagle from wingtip to wingtip. I don't know if it's ok to post the website where I saw a picture of this buckle so I'm not going to at this time. If anyone knows if that's ok let me know and I will give the website. Sorry I have no way of posting a pic right now. Thanks in advance for all your help.
The website is Doughboy military collectibles and it's under "Civil war and earlier" Scroll nearly all the way down and it is th buckle shown on the "complete leather waistbelt". It is the only place I have found any information about it. This site refereces Odonell and Campbells Military Belt Plates Book page 110 "at the top" but I can't find that book in my area. Thanks again.

Thanks for the replies. Sorry I couldn't post a pic but you guys nailed it, that is the plate I have. Anyone know how much it would be worth? It is in good condition.

The plate at the top of p. 110 in the book cited is a "Common Militia" belt plate, c. 1825-35.
Here's a fairly similar example:
