Hello Treasure Hunters,

I found this vase a couple days ago under about 2ft. of soil. It has no markings so I took it to a dealer who thinks it may be 19th century victorian. Without markings I am having trouble learning much about it. I'm hoping some of you might be able to help. Any information would be appreciated.
I think those are wheat stalks on the front but not sure.
It stands 7" tall.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Looked into this for a while and didn't see anything like this. You may have a better chance of getting it identified if you keep this post but also post this in more forums that may be more specific to this find.

Did you dig anything up near it that can be dated? Bottles maybe? If it is 1933+ maybe you can find it on this website-WishbookWeb.com? I have been able to use this website to id a few newer items.

Merry Meet Pepperlizard,

Just want to thank you for the time you spent looking into this vase for me. I sincerely appreciate that. I have been away from home the past 2 nights so please forgive the late response back. I think I should get the app for my phone. I see we have the same metal detector and that we both are kinda new to this. I'm curious about your skill level with the Ace 350. I'm having difficulty distinguishing the tones. I know they say lots of practice is the key and I don't mind putting in the work. Just wish I was able to know what I'm hitting on. It's aggravating sometimes when I dig for 15 minutes on what my machine is telling me is a coin only to find a beer can of pull tab.
Anyways, I hope you find tons of neat stuff!
I'll look at some different forums to post my vase in as you suggested, thanks again and happy hunting!

Merry Meet Catobra,

I did find several other items buried with or near the vase...one was a bees nest and they were not happy with me at all:unhappysmiley:
It's difficult to try and date the vase based on the other finds though, there were things from all periods of this century. For example I found tail light lenses for a 1970"s chevy pick up, a ceramic window planter from the 40's or 50's, I even fond a wake boarding wet suit in perfect condition. So I'm confused on how thes items all came to be where I found them.
I'm holding out hope that vase is actually from the period my expert puts it in but I will still check out the website you mentioned. I have tons of other things that I need to learn about and it sounds like that will be a great place to get it done.
Thank you for looking at the vase and I wish you happy hunting!

do you have a pic of the bottom of vase
i learned something here on Tnet way back, how to tell if the vase is hand blown
its called a pontil mark. im not sure, but i think you can age the item by that mark

Merry Meet cw0909,

After reading your response I looked for the pontil mark and there doesn't appear to be one. I'm familiar with that type of mark from the bottles I collect and it is a good way to begin dating an item.
This is really turning out to be a mystery for me. I thank you for taking the time to look at the vase and wish you lots of good hunting!

Sorry I havent any idea on the vase.

As far as your MD, you cannot trust what they indicate on the screen. You pretty much have to dig everything. You may be able to recognize tones (ferrous or non ferrous) but many times a screen says its a pop top but its really a gold ring.

I hate those ding dong tones. The Ace is a good unit but I dont like the bell tones.
