Need help identifying this gun's Butt Plate.

I went relic hunting in south Louisiana about 2 weeks ago and found this Butt plate. Can any one please tell me what kind of gun it would have been on? Also what does that mark with the backwards F and P mean? Thanks if anyone can help me out

Looks to me like a fowler buttplate. No clue on the mark, must be a makers mark of some kind.
